Weird robot dogs for future wars and more are showing up with guns, rocket launchers, and even flamethrowers – Militaries like the US, China, and Russia are building robot dogs to employ in security and combat operations.

>Militaries, law enforcement, and more around the world are increasingly [turning to robot dogs](https://www.businessinsider.com/army-looks-into-robot-dog-armed-ai-rifle-shoot-drones-2024-8) — which, if we’re being honest, look like something straight out of a science-fiction nightmare — for a variety of missions ranging from security patrol to combat.
>Robot dogs first really came on the scene in the early 2000s with Boston Dynamics’ “BigDog” design. They are becoming increasingly prolific with improved designs, and they have been used in both military and security activities. In November, for instance, it was reported that robot dogs had been added to President-elect Donald Trump’s security detail and were on patrol at his home in Mar-a-Lago.
>Some of the remote-controlled canines are equipped with sensor systems, while others have been equipped with rifles and other weapons. One Ohio company made one with a flamethrower.
Anyone in their right mind should be opposing this. It’s only a matter of time before they use these domestically.
This is the inevitable path of the automation of warfare. These, combined with AI, essentially guarantee that we now face an existential threat. I’ve seen it in conjecture on this sub as what must be guarded against, and now it seems it’s happening without much consideration at all. We’re not going to be a type 1 civilization. Maybe our AI will ❤️
Let’s agree that these robots would be useful for demining rather than wasting human resource.
I have not seen 1 single video of a robodog being used in combat.
The scariest Black Mirror episode was Metalhead.
Just wait until companies start using these to guard their warehouses.
Boston Dynamics has had these for a really long time.
It’s fine. I’ll just throw some “chips” and distract them……😏……😀😆😅🤣🥲😐
Best thing to do is get world leaders to battle it out amongst themselves on a remote island somewhere. A fight to the death and leave the rest of the world to enjoy life. Let them take robot dogs, nukes, humanoid robots whatever…..but leave us out of it!
Sadly we are creating our own destruction. He who controls the drones controls the world. Don’t forget the Romans
And if China can manufacture them in robot factories faster than The USA can?
I feel like Hollywood and science fiction writers have been trying to warn us about this for a long time and we are just walking right into our own annihilation.
I think we are about to find the solution to the great filter. Societies intelligent enough, but dumb enough, to build shit like this inevitably destroy themselves.
The land based robots will always be limited by current battery technology.
I don’t know how long they can go on a single charge so they’re not really helpful in a lot of attack scenarios unless you don’t want them back and don’t care about the technology falling into enemy hands.
They’ll still struggle in scenarios with doors. It’s too easy for someone to block a door for them to problem solve on their own how to get around that and a human operator will likely not be much help either.
They’re most useful as patrolling security where they can be brought back in to charge at regular intervals and replaced with another one while the other is charging.
I saw another mention drones being the real game changer, especially for warfare and long range reconissance. Just look to Ukraine, drones are making all the headlines for being a game changer on the battlefield. Nothing about the land based robots.

Is this the future that we were looking for? So disturbing.
Just give me a Boston dynamics dog with an MG3 on its back and can shit claymores.
Why dogs? I feel there is much better designs then dogs, is there some psychological aspect to it?
But will we program the robots to say “Roger Roger” while marching into battle?
Reminds me of the dogs that the Russians used in WWII to blow up enemy tanks that ended up just running back to their handlers and blowing them up instead.
