    Home Office refuses to release grooming gang deportation data despite backlash over scandal

      Do those figures actually exist? “Grooming” isn’t a specific offence. Nor is being part of a “grooming gang.” So why would the Home Office have this data?

      Is this the Home Office “refusing” to release data, or is this the Home Office not doing something that would be impossible?

      [Also, as the other reply at the moment notes, has anyone actually asked the Home Office to do this, via official channels?]

      There’s no source given for any comment or response from the Home Office, and while the headline says “refuses” the article goes on to say “declines”.

      There’s nothing recent in Hansard on deportations, so as far as I can tell it hasn’t been brought up in Parliament. Also no mention of an FOI request in either the LBC article or the Telegraph article on the same subject.

      The article mentions X immediately before referring to “calls” to release data. “Calls” is often used in articles when a person or group makes a public demand for action, often on social media. So I suspect this is a case of people, including some politicians, asking for the data on Twitter and the Home Office not responding to those requests.

      If that is the case – it’s not controversial. I’d rather government business not be conducted via social media posts, least of all through Twitter.

      I’m going to guess the numbers are very very low, because if they were good numbers they’d release the report and receive praise.

      What a complete shambles this all is. Government being found out and finally being out to task over this. Disgraceful how they’ve acted and avoiding everything is such a cowardly move and a huge injustice to each and every victim
