It’s appalling how many senior MPs have either remained silent or failed to condemn the language Musk used about Jess. If there’s one issue that should unite our MPs, it’s taking a stand against such behavior and speaking out.

    2. Miserable-Advisor945 on

It’s been 8 1/2 years since the murder of MP Jo Cox by a far right extremist.

Robert Kendrick was an MP at the time this happened.

Kemi banedoch was in the London Assembly when this happened.

They would of had to reassess their security arrangements, after being given advice by their local police forces.

To push a false narrative baiting the far right is disgusting in itself.

But compared to what Liz Truss wrote on twitter direct about Jess Philips is downright disgusting, enough to bait Musk into calling for her to be imprisoned and threats to her life.

Liz Truss was an MP when Jo Cox was killed, she would of had the same discussions about security and threats of far right violence, she knew it would be a dog whistle for further action.

How fucking disgusting our politics has turned to this.

      Utter fucking disgrace.

    3. Is it going to take another MP getting murdered for people to realise how dangerous this situation can get?!?!?

    4. Electrical-Lab-9593 on

musk does not care about these children who got hurt outside of them being a political tool, he is surrounded by abusers, and called a man who rescued trapped children a pedo because “he did not get to rescue them”.

i don’t know if local investigations are better than a national one, but Musk knows fuck all about this and and cares even less than he actually knows about the problem, he is actively trying to lower wages and make families poorer, where do you think most of these victims come from, i bet its mostly poorer communities, the type of people him and his cronies hate.

    5. The headline suggests Jess Phillips is making this all about her – but it was an answer to a direct question (see the video on the BBC site).

*Safeguarding minister Jess Phillips has told BBC’s Newsnight that “disinformation” spread by Elon Musk was “endangering” her but that it was “nothing” compared to the experiences of victims of abuse.*

*The tech billionaire and adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump labelled Phillips a “rape genocide apologist” and said she should be jailed.*

*She said the criticism she was currently facing would be “worth it… only if we make an actual change”. “And if I have to go through all of this and I haven’t changed the way local areas deal with grooming gangs in two years’ time, it wouldn’t have been worth it,” she added. She said suggestions Labour politicians worried inquiries would be unpopular with their own voters was “an absolute load of rubbish”.*

*Phillips, who ran a domestic abuse refuge before becoming a Labour MP, also strongly defended her own record on tackling violence against women.*

I admit I am not a great fan of Jess Phillips – something about her media appearances – but – we all know that Elon is a spoilt prick and seems to be trying to out perform Trump in crazy statements. So, yes perhaps another inquiry specifically into grooming gangs is probably needed, but we should all be deleting our Twitter/X accounts.

Jess Philips, on the mass groping and sexual assault of women in Cologne in 2016: “A very similar situation to what happened in Cologne could be describing Broad Street in Birmingham every week.”

Jess Philips, on a gang of armed Asian men intimidating and attacking Sky News reporters in Birmingham in 2024: “These people came to this location because it has been spread that racists were coming to attack them”

She has also made numerous comments criticising talking about the rape gangs as being ‘far right’.

She has a long history of excusing covering for violence and sexual assault, as long as it committed by non-whites.

Now she plays the victim card that she’s been called out on it.

A disgusting pathetic woman who sums up modern Labour and the contempt they have for the public

    7. demolition_lvr on

This is embarrassing. She’s a member of Government and yet acts like some vacuous celebrity or social media influencer.

    8. Call them “lies”, stop pussy footing around and call him a purposeful liar and keep calling him a liar anytime his name is mentioned. Musk is a liar, Trump is a liar, the “disinformation” they spread are lies and the public understands what a lie is so just call it what it is, FFS.

    9. She is quite happy to pipe up about the attacks on her when it is white people. But when a certain lot of people ran in her same constituency, who were attacking her while being stood in the same room, she had nothing to say…

    10. It really annoys me as by all accounts she has been active in advocating for women who’ve been subjected to domestic and sexual abuse her whole career. Not just talking about it as an MP but working for Women’s Aid for her early career.

Argue with the policy. Argue about how slow it’s been in implementing change (something she has said she is mad about). Debate whether the decision not to hold a national inquiry would have been better than her view of following the previous model and her reasoning behind it.

What we shouldn’t do is try to burn down someone who actually seems to give a shit when we’d get a better result by emphasising how important it is the work of her area actually gets done and gets monitored to see its results and then reviewed and the next set of changes made if/when the Jay report doesn’t go far enough. If she proves ineffective, fine, then she should be replaced, that’s how politics goes. If you aren’t just interested in point scoring then the way our parliament works is by people telling their MPs ‘this matters to me, push it in parliament’ and keeping the pressure on to actually do something.

The whole situation that happened is awful with systemic problems and delays in implementing recommendations. The current discourse from Musk is reducing complex problems into simple reductionist popular soundbites. Raise awareness sure, hold those accountable responsible, sure, push for more oversight of the organisations/police at the front line don’t sweep things under the rug again, sure. But, all this noise distracts from actually dealing with the many problems that are already identified but nothing has been done to fix.

    11. I dislike Phillips pretty much the same amount as I dislike Musk.

See also Farage and Tommy Robinson.

    12. All MPs and government departments should quit Twitter this week. It is clear that Musk has gone beyond his usual brand of crazy and is trying to attack or democracy. He does not care about left vs. right or party allegiances, he will go for anyone he disagrees with and the longer he has this sort of influence over discourse in our politics, the worse it will get.

    13. If you look into Maggie Oliver’s direct experience the real problem is actually safe guarding young vulnerable children either historically or… RIGHT NOW in the present there are trafficking and grooming of “minors” going on in the present not just the mass scandal in the Northern towns.

I feel like the social media messaging is becoming legacy news-media massaging here…

Deflecting from the direct problems as said happening now as well as historic.

    14. Why they blocking a public inquiry into this scandal then? Perhaps jess philips and kier starmer would like to be specific about the lies and misinformation thats being said? I think thats a fair point.

Its Most likely they wont, same reason for blocking a public inquiry, this all leads back to kier starmer when he was head of the CPS between 2008 – 2013, also some senior politicians in goverment. They are covering this up, putting peadophiles and nonces before the safety of british people.

Labour really will disappear in the next election in years to come. God help us all if starmer does resign and that “woman of the people” – Angela Rayner becomes prime minister.

      We are doomed.

    15. I always thought Twitter and X were an nonesense.

If we just blocked it then everyone can go about their business like we did in the old days where if you wanted to threaten someone you had to do something credible and not just send a lazy tweet while you’re high plying with your phone while sat on the bog.

Imagine if Elon had to go through the ordeal of hand writing every one of his tweets directly to his targets, pop them in an envelope, lick a stamp and stand in line at the post office.

Something tells me he’d not be up for that.

X does feel like a cancer that the UK could do without. Im not one for censorship but this silly rich boy has got way to big for his boots. All credible organisations have left the platform already so now its become a wild west sewer.

We need to Xit from X

    16. Is he stating how she and labour are covering up child grape by a Muslim population that accounts for 80% of their voter base ?

    17. Electrical_Ad5155 on

‘Someone said something mean to me and now I can barely function’ is not exactly what we want in our supposed leaders.

    18. Matt-J-McCormack on

Phillips is a snake who uses shit like this as political capital to further her.

    19. Apprehensive-Store48 on

There are people more offended by what Musk is saying online than towards the Muslim grooming gangs themselves.

Just about sums everything up. He wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if we weren’t buried under a pile of excused, cover ups, and lack of balls to discuss or even tackle this problem.

    20. AbbreviationsNo3796 on

I care more about the little girls than a highly protected hypocrite politician. Noone cares about her when she didn‘t care about children.

    21. I’m no fan of Jess Phillips, but its not the place of foreign ket fuelled billionaires to hold her, or any of our politicans to account, its our place. He should mind his own business.

I hope he chokes on his weetabix

    22. TheEvilAdventurer on

Phillips still has not met with the victims a month after they requested for her to do so.

But she did reject their call for more of an investigation via a government memo.

Outrage is to be expected. She is a powerful government minister, not a victim.

    23. shaunoffshotgun on

This is annoying because I very much dislike Jess Philips but I can only feel sympathy for what she’s going through. In a world where Joanne Cox was murdered in the way that she was, I can imagine it a genuinely scary time for her and her family.

    24. spectator_mail_boy on

Was only a few months ago she was whipping up her local mob to attack Sky News tv crews on twitter. Still, she has a sad face now so boo hoo.
