A 14-year-old boy has been stabbed to death on a double-decker bus, police have said.
The victim was killed on the 472 bus on Woolwich Church Street near the junction with the A205 South Circular Road in Woolwich, south-east London, at about 14:30 GMT.
The teenager died at the scene shortly after paramedics from London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance arrived, the Metropolitan Police added.
No arrests have been made but a police cordon and road closures remain in place.
Matthew Pennycook, Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, said he was “deeply saddened that yet another young life has been lost in our community”.
His post, external added: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a paramedic from our tactical response unit.
“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Utterly depressing, hopefully the 1,300 additional Police that the Major of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, has promised us will go some way to helping reduce knife crime.

Horrific. Similar thing happened in Croydon quite recently too.

They need to invest in putting police officers on buses

No description of suspect. Wonder if they have any idea how the perpetrator even looks like.

We should go full El Salvador, if you’re caught stabbing someone else you should just get 10 years in prison no ifs no buts, this carnage cannot be allowed to continue. These thugs need to have incredibly long prison sentences so they cannot commit harm – there is absolutely no benefit to society to keeping knife wielding gangsters on the streets

What a tragedy. Condolences to his family and friends.

I think we need to have shows them programs and be really public about what happened to these people after they go to prison… How to lose their relationships… how they forget the real world how the real world forgets them, we’re gota show the young people the price of what one minute of anger with a knife leads to….
But we probably have to sort out longer and tougher sentencing…
Edit : Also police need more power. I get to see a lot of shoplifters, you wouldn’t believe the amount of people telling them to fuck off… who spit on the police… The names that they get called the abuse they take it’s unbelievable.

Grew up in Erith and Thamesmead right next door to Woolwich. I am so glad I moved from London 15 years ago-place is a utter shit hole now-nowhere near enough police to deal with the amount of crime that goes on-it was bad enough when I was growing up, I feel sorry for the kids growing up there now, it’s a absolute nightmare

And before anyone says sentencing is too lenient, cast your mind across the pond and wonder why the prospect of the death penalty does not stop murder.
Whats wrong is the way we bring up our kids, but then what can parents do when both are now more or less required to go out to work and work longer for less

No deterrent, these atrocities will continue to happen. Time to wise up.

Just bring in the capital punishment or chop these criminals’hands off and they’ll stop stabbing Young kids and people for no reason. This is absolutely sickening! This kid is someone’s son and could be someone’s brother and nephew too, the entire family is affected by this.

What kind of punishment is given for this sort of crime in UK?
Would having the arm chopped off or sentenced to death not be reasonable for pointless murders? Should deter criminals in the long term.

That’s what happens when the law is too soft on people. I would love to see what will happen to this murderer in countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand etc.
