Some context: I never considered myself an alcoholic, but I became worried about my drinking habits at the end of 2023 after doing the math to figure out how much I was actually drinking.
It started with having a couple of beers here and there in the evenings, but over the course of a few years that very gradually (so gradually that I didn’t even notice) turned into a habit of drinking three beers every night.
The beers I drank gradually increased in size and ABV, and by the end of 2023 I was regularly drinking three 16oz cans of 7-7.5% ABV beers every evening. So my “3 beers” each evening was actually 5.5-6 standard drinks, or around 40 standard drinks per week. When I realized this, I was horrified.
Last January I decided that I wanted to give up alcohol completely, but I didn’t want to go cold turkey, since I’d tried that in the past with only limited success. The results are what you see in the chart in my post.
My last drink was on December 29th, 2024. It was delicious.

Good luck! The descriptions of milestones really helps assign meaning to changes in data.

More surprised that you never considered yourself an alcoholic; you absolutely were. Amazing progress, you must be saving a crapload of money and I suspect you feel much better too.

Do you miss it?
Has your social life declined since you began drinking less?
What physical or psych benefits, if any, have you noticed?

It’s impressive you managed to act on your moment of awakening. You saw a problem and didn’t let it grow beyond your control. It’s also good you didn’t quit cold turkey since it is, as you say, less efficient.
I’m happy for you OP! I do hope it is your *last drink, maybe ever*. The consequences of alcohol are severely underestimated, and I’m glad to see more people acknowledging it and going sober.

This is so cool! To go from 40 drinks a week to 10 drinks a week is so commendable.
