There is only one reason why people believe this conspiracy theory and its because they don’t THINK about it properly. They must have the laziest internal monologue ever as though it would starve to death if it spent more than one calorie thinking it through.
The whole world were tracking Apollo to and from the moon with radio telescopes. During the actual Apollo 11 lunar landing the signals were received in Australia and sent across the globe to NASA (there’s a movie about it, “The Dish”). Everyone and their enemy would have told the world if the US did not actually travel to the moon. Especially the soviets, who also tracked Apollo and with their massive size could even range verify with triangulation by using radio telescopes in different parts of the soviet union.
