Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted the “strong and strategic relationship” between Georgia and Azerbaijan during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, calling the country “not only a good friend, but also a very good strategic partner”.

Speaking after their face-to-face discussion, Kobakhidze highlighted the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties and advancing shared regional goals.

For us, the Republic of Azerbaijan is not only a good friend, but also a very good strategic partner, and for us, it is a priority to further deepen this strategic partnership”, Kobakhidze said during the joint statements.

He also noted the meeting had provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation and the broader political processes affecting the region.

We had a very interesting bilateral meeting, where we talked about cooperation between our two countries, as well as ongoing political processes in the [South Caucasus] region and globally. These political processes impact the positions of our countries, and it is important to work together to address all challenges”, the official noted.

Emphasising the “critical role” of regional stability, Kobakhidze reiterated Georgia’s commitment to contributing to peace in the South Caucasus.

Peace and stability in the South Caucasus are of particular importance. Once again, we can state our readiness to make the maximum contribution to ensuring peace and security in the region, to the extent that this is possible for us”, he added.

The leaders also highlighted the importance of economic collaboration, particularly in the context of strategic infrastructure projects.

Kobakhidze pointed out the significance of ongoing and future initiatives.

The President mentioned the strategic projects that are being implemented with the participation of our two countries, and these projects have both economic and political importance. It is very important to further develop such projects and initiate new ones in the future”, he said.

The meeting reaffirmed the mutual commitment of Georgia and Azerbaijan to strengthening their strategic partnership and addressing shared regional challenges through close cooperation, the Georgian Government’s press office said.
