    1. Ahh “a source”.

Independent as trust worthy as always, thank you Evgeny Lebedev & Sultan Muhammad Abuljadayel

    2. Slimy piece of shit and not shocked. Horrible human and the fact he is now high up in labour these days says everything about the problems we are having.

Is it up to the US who we choose to represent us as an envoy? If this was the case, we should object to any Russian bullshitter Putin is likely to choose and send.

They may not be able to reject them but they can subsequently choose not to engage with them.

    5. Liz Truss could be a compromise candidate. It’ll be a climbdown for the former PM, but she is a patriot who loves the country and will be happy to oblige.

I’m not going to wade in on the idea of Mandelson being dodgy in a purely political sense. But all the Epstein insinuations that he somehow has some link to the sex trafficking of underage women ITT seems particularly specious given Mandelson has been out and proud since at least 1987, where News of the World tried to out him (despite being out to consituents, colleagues and friends as per his Wiki page).

Not everybody linked to Epstein is sordid and necessarily knew what he was up to guys.

    7. > Another source added: “Ideally, they would like Labour to pull the Mandelson appointment and keep Dame Karen Pierce in place, but they are worried that if Labour pulls Mandelson, Labour will appoint someone even worse like Kim Darroch, Sadiq Kahn, or some far worse person.”

Sadiq Khan? what, might as well be worried they’d send the spice girls.

Makes me wonder why we accepted anti British Joseph P. Kennedy into the position of UK ambassador. The guy was literally supporting the Nazis and telling the Americans that the British had no hope and were doomed to failure! Thank fuck he was replaced by Roosevelt with John Gilbert Winant, who could see the steadfast British response to the Nazi threat.

If he does so, we should reject his choices, and continue to do so until he accepts ours

Trump should be treated as a naughty toddler and not given into

    10. I don’t understand why the U.K. has chosen to end the term of the current ambassador to the US. She is well liked by Trump and the republicans generally as well as by the Democrats. So much so that the Trump administration asked if she could stay.

As a career civil servant there should be no issues about an unwillingness to serve a Labour government.

Putting aside the obvious; that if you want an ambassador to get on with his or her host, don’t select someone who is on record critically about the host, as Mandelson has done, the whole thing just seems so cackhanded.

    11. Not sure Trump has a day in who the ambassador is. He can behave like a dick and nobody can stop him, but the same can happen to the US Ambassador if it’s true.

It’s a shame labour still have Mandelson. He seems to hold some sort of soft power weight.

But connection to epstein is disturbing

    13. How Mandelson is still pulling Labour’s strings beggars belief. His ideas on China are blinkered and will bring us into direct conflict with the US and the EU. He’s written articles insulting Trump so what do we do? No nominate him as Ambassador to the US instead of a career diplomat. The crass stupidity of Labour is really beginning to show. The idea we have anywhere near a 50/50 relationship with the US is a joke.

Regardless of what you think about Trump, Mandelson is a shitbag who was already booted out twice for sleaze. It is insane that he was ever nominated as ambassador to our key ally.

    15. zerogamewhatsoever on

The UK should just not even bother sending an ambassador to our shithole country at this point.

Is it possible that they refuse everyone and then Trump suggests the only option is Nigel Farage. As Nigel Farage wants to take credit for any American trade deal to qualify him as having made brexit successful.

    17. Mandelson should be nowhere near the position, after he was implicated through his advisory firm Global Counsel in the asset stripping of a British GPU design company, a technology extremely important for the AI technology race, by Chinese companies owned by the Communist Party, which transferred assets to one Chinese company which supplies the Chinese military, another that is part owned by the Russian government. One of America’s key foreign policy objectives is preventing China from getting access to western technology around AI. I doubt the yanks will even talk to him beyond a superficial level, they will view him a security risk.

      https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/chinese-gpu-designers-received-key-technologies-from-imagination-technology-report

This also led to substantial job cuts in the UK, companies like this are bought up by the Chinese state for access to technology transfer, the company itself is not worth anything to them as a going concern, in fact it’s in their interests to run it down.
