Something like this would be major news, as this would have widespread consequences on US research. More people would have leaked it even if there were a gag order on public dissemination.

It’s possible this is fallout from the recent executive order surrounding reversing DEI policies, could be something related to [another recent change](https://apnews.com/article/trump-health-communications-cdc-hhs-fda-1eeca64c1ccc324b31b779a86d3999a4).
