US President Donald Trump has shown a willingness to work toward a reduction of nuclear weapons with Russia and China, using the word “denuclearization.”
Trump made the remarks in an online speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday.
He said, “Tremendous amounts of money are being spent on nuclear, and the destructive capability is something that we don’t even want to talk about today, because you don’t want to hear it’s too depressing.”
Trump recounted talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin about denuclearization. He said Putin liked the idea of cutting back on nuclear arms, and so did China.
Trump added, “We want to see if we could denuclearize, and I think that’s very possible.”
The US and Russia possess a large portion of the world’s nuclear warheads. China has been rapidly building up its nuclear capabilities.
