Dodgy private parking firms are such low hanging fruit for Labour, they’re a pain in the arse, affect everyone’s lives and shouldn’t be that hard to regulate properly.
Sort it out and shout about it constantly then you have something easy to point to when people ask “what has Labour even done?”.

Said it the other day and thought about it since having problems with a dodgy car park company that if the charge is overturned then the company would be liable to an equal (or greater amount 10x?) as a courtesy charge.

Aaaahhhh! They already passed a law to do this then withdrew it. Does the article mention that? I can’t be bothered wading through it all.
The BPA is veneered with professionalism but helps firms get more money. The IPC are sharks who help conmen rip people off.
Sorry you’re going to be on your own, just make sure you check signs avoids 90% of the risk.

> An MP who says he is receiving “more and more” complaints about private car parks says the sector should not be left to regulate itself.
No private industry should regulate itself. That kind of defeats the purpose of regulation.

Every private parking company should have to sign up to a government run organisation, and most importantly they should all use the same bloody app!!!

Everyone despises these firms. Not only should their practices be illegal but it’s such an easy win for a government

The government passed legislation back in 2019 to curb the excesses of the parking industry. Whilst the legislation has been passed implementing it has completely stalled and appears to have been kicked into the long grass. There is a petition to get the legislation implemented.
A good start to this would be to stop the DVLA selling our car registration information to private companies.

No organisation should be allowed to regulate themselves full stop.

All this type of stuff is easy pickin’s for Labour, if they were so inclined.

They’re one of the most unproductive industries. They employ little to no staff, pray on the vulnerable and hog the courts system (by filing a claim and then pulling out at the last minute).
If Labour are serious about the growth, they should reform the whole industry:
– Ban the use of ANPR for automated enforcement. Either have a staff member issuing invoices, or put the bloody barries in like most European countries do
– Set up independent government-controlled ombudsman – Ofpark? The last thing our judical system needs is dealing with those parasites abusing the system.
– Ban pay on arrival – it’s a sneaky way of charging extra for an unused stay period
If we were to be radical, we could even force them to reduce the charging period from hourly, like many European operators do (most car parks in Barcelona charge a fraction of a cent per minute)

Meanwhile the last government sat on the results of a nationwide consultation into pavement parking. And this government still hasn’t done anything about it.
Sort that out first. I am fucking sick of it.

No they fucking shouldn’t. I parked in one last year. The machine wasn’t working so I couldn’t enter my reg plate. It still let me pay and gave me a ticket. They fined me for not entering my fucking reg plate?! I even sent them the ticket and my bank screenshot. Fuckers.

Damn right. I refuse to park anywhere that isn’t council run street parking or a reputable larger multi story. Everyone else are total shysters. I’ll walk as long as it takes to not park at one of those fucker’s crappy bit of land.
I tend to go out shopping on Sundays as the city has free street parking on Sundays

Uncle of mine had a lovely time with parking eye who claimed he owed them a few grand in fines for parking a red Porsche in a Birmingham multi storie
He has never owned a red Porsche or even one at the time
He’s never driven to Birmingham
Letters eventually stopped when he threatend to take them to court over it
