Herminia’s on her way, and she’s angry…
Spain is bracing itself for a battering as Storm Herminia rolls in this Sunday, January 26, promising torrential rain, gale-force winds, and monster waves up to 10 metres tall.
After feeling the fading fury of Storm Éowyn, which has already wreaked havoc in the UK, Spaniards are preparing for a weekend of wild weather.

The AEMET has issued a red alert for Galicia, warning of severe coastal conditions as towering waves crash ashore. Orange warnings for strong winds and heavy rain have also been extended to Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Navarra, and La Rioja.
Galicia on high alert for the affects of Herminia
Forecasters have their eyes on Galicia, which is expected to bear the brunt of Herminia’s rage. Heavy rainfall will drench the region, with thunderstorms rolling in to add extra drama. Winds from the south and southwest will only intensify, whipping into hurricane-level gusts in exposed areas like mountain peaks and headlands.
“This storm isn’t just bringing rain – it’s packing a punch with wind speeds that could prove dangerous,” warned the AEMET.
Storm Éowyn’s farewell weekend blow
While Herminia takes centre stage, Storm Éowyn has left its mark. The UK bore the brunt earlier this week, with a trail of destruction that included school closures, roadblocks, ferry cancellations, and flight delays. Tragically, a man in Ireland lost his life during the chaos.
Éowyn’s final act hit Spain on Saturday, January 25, drenching the northern coast and whipping up a maritime tempest that’s been churning the waters all day long.
Prepare for a polar plunge as temperatures in Spain nosedive
If Herminia wasn’t enough, get ready for a polar blast that’s set to freeze Spain into submission. Temperatures will nosedive across the country, adding an icy twist to an already dramatic weekend.
So, grab your brollies and batten down the hatches – Herminia’s set to make her presence felt.
