As long as these developments are open-source, it’s good for everyone, right?

  2. Billionaires win.  They can get rid of troublesome and expensive employees.  And they can make the government pay for the development costs.  AI does what you tell it to and doesn’t try to unionize.

  3. Yes there can be a winner, but I guess if the US doesn’t win then it doesn’t count

Stupid article warns against bad actors and then wants US and China to protect us from these bad actors. Well, maybe the US and China are the bad actors we need protection from!

if I’m making dinner at my house and you’re making dinner at your house, but you come over and lock me inside, so I just cook using whatever’s in my fridge. is it a dinner war? lmao. or just one guy being an asshole lmao

U.S. has already lost. No matter what the trust fund bros whine about, America is cooked. Great job, guy!

  7. “there can be no winners” is usually the first thing the loser says when they know they are going to lose

Oh we say that now that China just whooped our ass at it.

“Hey hey cmon guys I was just playing around!” Energy

Speedrunning thousands of job losses then blaming China for it, again! 2025 edition.

Obvious winner here (and i’m no fan of the country). Have you seen how dumb our students are and how much dumber they’re getting?

The winner will be the future robot race that replaces the human race. There are no other end points for the current AI arms race. We will be remembered in the mythology of the future robot race in which the ancient powers of yin and yang crashed and created the greater robot universe.

  12. Consumers?

When one country has a monopoly, or one company does, things tend generally to be shit for customers. Competition that isn’t about fucking superweapons has to be a good thing.

China is driving the green revolution by undercutting EV costs. This is forcing the other companies to compete and switch up their game. Much as I am mortified by the prospect of losing VW due to this, and I am aware that state subsidies give them an unfair advantage – my huawei has never become bricked by a software update, making it die as started to happen with Samsung phones as soon as they took over the market.

Non military competition is good. The energy use of AI is bad, but when China is investing in renewables and texas is burning coal for crypto, I know which side I’d choose. You’ve also got the fact that the US is now a fascist state.

Let’s do it anyway. Eventually we need to create something being our control and has the power to enslave or destroy us. Why not now?

America’s been a loser for awhile now. Ever since we lost the Soviets as competitors, nobody’s given a shit about staying ahead because progress doesn’t make money. That’s why china will win. They don’t have bureaucracy to deal with or corporate donors who get to tell Joe Biden and Donald Trump what they have to do or not do, Xi does what Xi wants to do and if that’s make a good AI, they make a good idea, damn the cost. America cares too much about money to win because winning isn’t profitable until we’ve already won and Rich Subhuman Scum have no patience.

  15. on the contrary, this hyper competition is good, especially if the open source models win out, because we don’t want this power centralized in the hands of a few.

  16. No kidding. Has NO one been paying attention the last couple decades? The felon is only going to help China with his short sighted, petty fiats

Whoever responsibly fast tracks fusion power can win an Ai war. Sorry folks, I’ve been watching to many Sci fi movies.. It has always and will forever be about greed. You can’t even shit without everyone looking if you have a cell phone
