    1. Experiencing a dark natural night at the famous island of La Palma is a formative and mindblowing experience and once was my starting point into nightscape photography. Coming back after years to whitness a total lunar eclipse in may 2022 amplified that momentun. The beauty of such an cosmic event in a place like the mountains of La Palma was a next-level experience and clearly taught me that mother nature isnt limited to our planet. Its the solar system and the whole universe.

In the early hours of May 16th, you could hear an unusual symphony of mobile phone alarms in the cozy cabin of Refugio Punta de Los Roques in the mountains of La Palma. At an altitude of 2085 m / 6840ft, one is mostly independent of weather conditions, so a handful of stargazers hiked to that Refugio to observe that rare event, a total lunar eclipse.

Furthermore this Panorama is part of my recent Photography Series: Starlit Deeps of Moonless Nights – 5 Years of Milky Way Photography

Once discovered during extended summer nights, the nocturnal excitement as a hidden world behind the boundaries of the ordinary became the main theme of my photographic journey. This round-up collection marks the 5 Years milestone of that weird trip into the dark including my best-loved Meteor Shower Images, Comet Neowise, Star Trail sessions and the Super Blood Moon Eclipse between Leipzig and La Palma
