ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington University senior men’s rugby player Oscar Treacy was tabbed the 8×8 Sports D1A Men’s Rugby National Player of the Week.

    QUOTING HEAD COACH TODD THORNLEY
“Oscar gets a lot of plaudits for his explosive ability with the ball in hand, but it’s what he does off the ball defensively that is truly special for us. His work ethic and attention to detail in his prep allows consistency in performances that puts him in the elite category at our level, so I am happy to see him receive this accolade as a recognition of his and the team’s hard work.”

Treacy played a key role in leading the ‘Cats to a thrilling 38-29 comeback victory over the University of Victoria last Saturday. Just before halftime, he put CWU in front with a brilliant individual effort, slicing through the defense to score a try, giving the team a 19-17 lead. In the 71st minute, Treacy delivered again, converting a try to reclaim the lead at 31-29, securing two tries on the day. His leadership, both defensively and offensively, provides a significant boost to a CWU squad that’s aiming for championship success this season.

Treacy and the Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they travel to Langley, British Columbia for a matchup against Trinity Western. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Willoughby Community Park Stadium.
