Spain, France score doubles wins to clinch ties in Davis Cup Qualifiers
Six-time champion Spain to face Denmark in September’s second round

Spain wasted little time completing a dominant away victory on Sunday in the first round of the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers.
Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar overcame Switzerland’s Marc-Andrea Huesler and Dominic Stricker to earn the six-time champion an unassailable 3-0 lead in Biel. It was a second match win of the weekend for Martinez, who defeated Dominic Stricker in the opening singles rubber of the tie on Saturday before Roberto Carballes Baena downed Jerome Kym.

Huesler and Stricker were unable to impose themselves Sunday in a must-win doubles rubber for Switzerland. They carved out just one break point in the one-hour, 45-minute encounter, by which time Martinez and Munar were serving for the match. The Spanish duo duly fended off the danger before sealing the win and their country’s overall victory in the tie.
Awaiting Spain in September’s second qualifying round will be Denmark, which on Saturday rallied from 0-2 to down Serbia 3-2 in Copenhagen.
Another former Davis Cup champion, France, also advanced in style with a doubles victory on Sunday. Benjamin Bonzi and Pierre-Hugues Herbert rallied past Brazilian duo Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to secure a 3-0 victory in the tie for the 10-time titlist.
France had taken control of the tie in Orleans with singles victories for the No. 15 in the PIF ATP Rankings Ugo Humbert, who downed #NextGenATP star Joao Fonseca, and Arthur Fils, who defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild. Now safely through thanks to Bonzi and Herbert’s doubles success, France’s will next face a second qualifying round encounter with Croatia, which on Saturday sealed a 3-1 victory against Slovakia.
