NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Despite the unseasonably warm weather the North Platte area has had this winter, NorthWestern Energy is offering tips on how to save energy when it gets colder.

It is important to take care of your outdoor meters and vents that use gas, which means keeping them cleared of snow.

Jo Dee Black, public relations specialist with Northwestern Energy, said that using natural heat and sunlight by opening and closing blinds throughout the day is another way to reduce costs, but most of all, taking care of your furnace is top priority.

“For the winter heating season, you want to make sure that your furnace and other equipment is in proper working order,” Black said. “You want to have regular maintenance and service done on your furnace, that includes changing your furnace filter if you have one so that you’re ready when the cold weather hits.”

Black mentioned that if you have questions about your furnace or your equipment needs service, it is best to contact a professional.
