  1. “A global protest movement dubbed PauseAI is descending on cities including Melbourne ahead of next week’s Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, to be held in Paris. The protesters say the summit lacks any focus on AI safety.”

The protesters are demanding the creation of an international AI Pause treaty, which would halt the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4, until they can be built safely and democratically.

“It’s not a secret any more that AI could be the most dangerous technology ever created,” Meindertsma told this masthead.

Meindertsma said the three most cited AI researchers, Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, Ilya Sutskever, had each now publicly said the technology could potentially lead to human extinction.

  2. Game theory will not allow the governments and corporations of the world to halt this progress. It’s equivalent to splitting the atom, or much greater. Whoever gets to Artificial General Intelligence will probably take over the top spot.

You can’t unopen the box. Whoever masters AI will be the next superpower, no country will ever give that up over some protests. It’s here, it’s not stopping. Hedge your bets and your skillsets

  5. The most dangerous thing about AI is dangerous people controlling it. For example, “AI, please read all social media for the last 6 years then give me a purge list of the 100 biggest political threats to me.”

You can’t stop progress, like with any other tech in the history of the world. Luddites (the classical kind) didn’t win.
