featuring visiting German guest artists Stefan Rütter (piano) and Stephan Boving (tenor).

Stefan and Stephan will talk about study and career opportunities for performing artists
and the theater landscape in Germany, sharing their perspectives as German conservatory
faculty and professional artists, and they would like to hear from you as well. Come
find out more about working and studying in Germany in the performing arts and bring
your own experiences and questions to share!

About Stefan and Stephan

Stephan Boving

Tenor Stephan Boving is equally successful as an opera and concert singer. After starting his career at
the Landestheater Detmold he became a member of the ensembles at the opera houses
in Wuppertal and Dortmund. In 2012 Barrie Kosky invited the tenor to join the ensemble
of the Komische Oper Berlin. He has sung at the opera in Köln, the Staatstheater Hannover,
the Aalto Theater Essen, in Karlsruhe, Basel and at many more houses.

 

Stephan is also very active as a recitalist and has worked with the Kölner Philharmonie,
the Tonhalle Zürich, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as well as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
Paris. His discography includes recordings with the WDR Funkhausorchester Köln and
the Bochum Symphony Orchestra. A recording of George Antheil’s „Venus in Africa“ was
recently released on the cpo label.

 

In 2015 Stephan joined the voice faculty at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. He has
also been teaching as a faculty member in the „German for Singers” program at the
German Summer Language School in Middlebury VT since 2012.

 

Stephan studied voice at the Musikhochschule Köln with Edda Moser and Reinhard Leisenheimer.
In addition, he attended numerous master classes, most notably with Kurt Moll and
Klesie Kelly.

 

Stefan Rütter

Stefan Rütter is on the faculty at the Musikhochschule Köln where he works as a collaborative
pianist and vocal coach for opera, art song, and oratorio. In 2012 he was appointed
musical director of the German for Singers program at the German Summer Language School
in Middlebury VT.

Stefan received his musical training at the Musikhochschule Köln and studied musicology,
dramatics, and philosophy at the Universität zu Köln. He worked as an accompanist
at international master classes and vocal competitions such as the Accademia Internazionale
Estiva di Cervo, Belvedere Singing Competition and the Cologne International Singing
Competition.

As a solo accompanist, he has performed with Edda Moser and Anja Harteros, among others,
and he is a regular accompanist for the German State Opera Agency (ZAV) in Cologne.
A prolific author, Stefan has published extensively in newspapers, radio features
and books, with a special thematic emphasis on opera. He is a regular contributor
to the broadcast series The New Recording on Deutschlandradio.
