As far as I know there is no recognition of the name Londonderry by the Irish state, all road signs display Derry/Doire only.
So by the rules of google Maps, should the city not appear as Derry in the Republic and Londonderry/Derry in the North?

Why is it displayed at all is the question
I think Micheal D should sign a presidential order renaming the “Atlantic ocean” as the “Mexican ocean”.
The London is silent
Because Google is an imperialist, capitalist corporation
Because we don’t need a sensitivity mode
Cos we aren’t so upset about the 6 silent letters
It says Londonderry Derry. It has both names.
It’s in your own screenshot.
Where’s Muff?
Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America) is shown worldwide to all not just within the USA. While you may not like it the Republic of Ireland have no rights or control of the County of Derry so why does it get to decide what name is shown for any area within it?
The USA at least do have an arguable claim for control over the Gulf
Oh Jesus this is about to get fun.
Because Google dont care about the rules, they care about linking the ass of the fuckwit in the oval office so he will throw them tax breaks, contracts and gut workers rights so they can screw over their US based staff.
always fuckers not from derry concerned with the name
They didnt want to upset Fine Gael
Because Londonderry is the name
To remind us that the current state of affairs still needs to be resolved.
Because Google is less afraid of us than it is of Trump
Only on Protestant computers. You have to go into the settings and change the religion.
Related somewhat; the BBC have specific guidelines on how to refer to Derry. That is, in the first instance it is called Londonderry and thereafter always Derry.
At least that’s what I understand.
Wikipeadia says the official name is Londonderry. Are we going to ban it? [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derry)
Only our leader is petulant enough to stamp their feet about it.
Because it has both. That’s the actual answer.
My guess is that the town itself isn’t a disputed territory, officially it’s in NI, so they get to name it. On Google Maps, the border is shown well outside of the town itself. If ROI were to actually dispute the border, they could probably claim a dispute on the name as well.
you have to be some quare kind of eejit to look at what Trump is doing and go ‘ah, we should be like that too’

Because…..
My Google maps shows Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)
I like the sound of Londonderryderry. It kind of trips off the tongue.
What’s with that northern Ireland bs, we should make that just Ireland
Guy gets into a taxi in Derry. The driver asks, “Are you Catholic or Protestant?” The guy says, “I’m Jewish.”
The driver asks, “Are you a Catholic Jew or a Protestant Jew?”
