Forget Love Island All Stars, because the internet can’t get enough of Temptation Island, the Spanish reality TV show that keeps popping up all over X (formerly known as Twitter.) But where in the UK can you watch Temptation Island, and what actually is it?
What is Temptation Island?
Temptation Island has actually been around since 2001, when it launched in the US and ran for three seasons. Five more seasons aired on the USA Network starting in 2019.
The premise sees couples’ relationships being put to the test, when they’re separated and put into different villas, and surrounded by eligible single people to see if they can resist infidelity. The results are, as you can imagine, dramatic.
As the official synopsis explains, “In this spicy update to the hit reality series, four couples test their relationships by shacking up with eligible singles on a tropical island.”
The Spanish version, La Isla de las Tentaciones, has been around for seven seasons, and is currently airing a season based in the Dominican Republic.
Why is everyone talking about Temptation Island Spain?
If you’ve been anywhere near the internet this week, the chances are you’ve seen footage of an attractive Spanish man running along the beach in distress, while the equivalent of Maya Jama shouts “Montoya, por favor!” at him as he yanks at his swim shorts. So, what on earth is going on?
Well, think of this moment as a Love Island Movie Night-esque reveal, as the escapades from Casa Amor are aired and any dalliances that partners haven’t shared with their couple are replayed.
Only, er, in this particular moment, said escapades were playing out via a live-stream (yep, as in, they were happening at that very moment.) Contestant José Carlos Montoya was watching his girlfriend, Anita Williams, on a live stream, having sex with another contestant in a separate villa along the coast. Montoya then decided to run towards them in an attempt to stop it happening – breaking the show’s rules and causing chaos.
In a later clip, Montoya watches Anita making out with another male contestant in a swimming pool, something she says is a direct response to him receiving a lap dance from another female. Montoya then kicks the iPad, tears off his shirt, and splashes around in the waves in distress. Footage of him in bed with another female contestant is then played to Anita, who is seen crying in the lap of the show’s host.
Where in the UK can you watch Temptation Island Spain?
Unfortunately, the Spanish version of Temptation Island isn’t available to watch in the UK, instead airing on a free-to-stream channel called Mitele for Spanish residence.
That said, Temptation Island is coming back with a new American season on Netflix on the 13th March. In a press release announcing the news, they wrote, “As for what’s in store, prepare for sunny skies and a high chance of infidelity, as four couples at a pivotal point in their relationships test their bond by living with a group of singles of the opposite sex. Isolated from one another, the couples will decide whether to return to their lives together, chart a new path alone, or leave the island with a new lover.”
