    1. “New calculations suggest that a large asteroid recently predicted to have an increased odds of striking Earth could miss the planet and might instead impact the the Moon.

Nasa’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, or Cneos, reviewed the trajectory of the asteroid 2024 YR4 and found that its odds of striking the planet in 2032 doubled to 2.3 per cent up from about 1 per cent.”

    2. I’m putting chips on it hitting the moon.

But it hits the dark side of the moon. All the buildup and no one gets to see it.

    3. According to NASA, this event only happens once in a blue moon.

When reached for comment, the Moon stated that the Asteroid better watch out for its Dark Side.

The update I read was that there is now an updated calculation of a one in fourty-two chance of hitting Earth.

Hm. I’m dumb, what would happen if this happened? Would it affect the tides or like, worse lol

    6. idk what it was about this title but it made me laugh harder than I have in quite while.

      that felt good

    7. This is what we’re all afraid of this year? This is getting the clicks? It’s not sharks or old people driving or randomly being punched by a stranger? It possibly getting hit by an asteroid in like 12 years. The odds are so slim and yet it’s everywhere on the news feeds.

    8. Knowing my luck with fluking out on that massive aurora borealis last year and missing that cool comet as well, it’s probably going to be during daytime with the moon barely visible.

When exactly? Cos I’d like to book a holiday to the Maldives on a credit card if I know I don’t have to pay it back…

    10. Man they keep teasing me with these asteroids, need a big one to actually hit already. Quit fkin around.

If it does it will be one of the best opportunities for scientific observation of this sort of impact since Schumacher-Levy.

I had a dream where a piece of the moon fell on me while I was visiting a city with skyscrapers.

Nothing I could do but accept the inevitable.

      Terrifying.

    13. “Might” smash into moon?

Guys, I get judging celestial bodies trajectory can be tricky, but that’s kind of your thing.

until it turns out that its an armor piercing asteroid, now we gotta put kevlar on the moon, just seems like a lot of work honestly.

    15. If that’s the case, hope it doesn’t change the moon’s orbit to create a “Moon Fall”-type scenario!

Luna: being a big magnet for space rocks since 3.000.000.000 BC (Give or take a billion)

Jupiter does the same thing in macroscale.

It’s almost like life has flourished in a relatively meteor-safe area :v

What happens if it does smash into the moon? Do we have to send a task force out and defend it’s honour or something?

I know it sounds silly but at the same time we can’t just be letting our inter-galactic neighbours take potshots at our the moon just because they’re bored. It’s not funny and it’s pretty dangerous and if we let them do it they’ll just keep doing it
