The New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) will open its doors in February 2026, adding a major new venue to Auckland’s Central Business District.
Located in the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, NZICC will be close to New Zealand’s major international airport, Auckland Airport. Transports links within Auckland are strong.
The venue is expected to bring 33,000 international delegates to Auckland each year, generating $90m in new economic spend annually.
General manager Prue Daly said that the new venue “is configured for anything from a meeting for 20 people all the way up to an international conference for 3,000 delegates.”
NZICC has been over a decade in the making. It overcame multiple delays, including a major fire in 2019.
The venue expects to start “operational readiness activities” in the second half of 2025. Daly explains: “Following the contractor’s delivery of the completed building, we expect to commence commissioning and operational readiness activities in the second half of 2025. It’s a complex undertaking to get ready to open, including scaling up our number of employees and associated training to provide the ultimate customer experience.”
NZICC will be a key addition to Auckland’s events offering, helping attract global conferences and business events.
Located near Sky Tower, the centre features large-scale artworks on its exterior and a menu that promotes local produce. More details on bookings and event capabilities are expected as the opening approaches.
