I don’t think Ukraine joining NATO was ever realistic. Russia has made their position on this consistent for decades – we could’ve seen this war coming since the early 2000s.

But every European country’s defence spending will have to increase, starting yesterday. Maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty whilst investing in our own deterrence is the only way forward.

Also, our media panicking over Trump’s desire for peace, as if we haven’t had many years of red flags both from Trump and Russia to prepare for uncertainty, is hilarious. The newspapers really do dig their own hole these days.

    2. Hey everyone. this may be an insensitive question but one that has been bugging me. Let’s say this war ends. Some EU countries MAY go back to buying russian gas. Would this mean that our energy prices would go down?

I’m not for one suggesting they should but knowing how this world works I’m sure some would go crawling back.

    3. It’s really simple the left want to go to war anyone else with common sense who don’t have shares in weapons, etc. don’t want to go to war because it just makes the Rich richer and the poorer dead

    4. Hundreds of billions of Russian oligarch property littered throughout the UK but he won’t touch that at all.

How much longer is it before we are allowed to ask what exactly the plan behind all this support was?

What was the expected or hoped for result?

Pushing Russia out of Ukraine is obvious but then what? The war has been ongoing for four years and it’s only now Trump is threatening to pull support suddenly Europe needs to start taking its defence seriously.

But why now? Why didn’t we start investing 4 years ago? Or when they invaded crimea?

Suddenly Europe is full of ideas of how to end the war.

If we did exactly what we have done but also massively increased defence spending across Europe it would have sent a stronger message to Putin and we would be exactly where we are but stronger instead of only just deciding to do it.

It just seems more and more obvious that nobody actually cared about the lives of Ukrainians and how to end the war.

Soft power didn’t work for four years and every day we could have tried something different and actually helped end the war rather than just prolonging it.

Well it will highlight that two successive UK governments have spent billions on some US inspired, EU endorsed military adventurism & have wasted billions of UK taxpayers money on a project they didn’t understand & most knowledgeable analysts accurately predicted would go absolutely nowhere….which it hasn’t at a cost of $300 billion of which half has disappeared & probably a million Ukrainian & Russian lives.

The fact that the US & Russia can end it on terms that are beneficial to themselves without even acknowledging the UK or EU ( & the fact both are powerless to stop them) highlights what a complete waste of money & lives this has been.

    7. I just don’t understand why they just don’t raise our taxes to give more money to Ukraine, I think that’s something the whole nation will get behind

    8. What is the endgame with Ukraine for the UK? just throw money eastwards for a forever conflict? Half measures are not going to beat Russia and the current approach isnt going to stop the conflict
