This reminds me of when I was a kid and made maps of imaginary worlds. I think I’ll print this out and add some civilization 🙂

It’s beautiful! But also, why is it a lake and not an ocean?

it’s a lake of liquid methane or something, where rocks are made from water ice 😏

Anyone else recognize this name from the Destiny 2 lorebook? I didn’t realize it was actually a real named feature of Titan.

A lake? In outer space? So water is just out there floating around?

I’m always interested in how the fluid dynamics work there. The coasts look very alien compared to those of Earth, sort of too intact. They remind me most of fjords, but not sure if those could form there. It seems like the erosion there works very differently.

Lake or sea? It’s my understanding that it’s not filled with water but instead liquid nitrogen but sea vs lake historically had the differentiation based on how salty it was. This has neither water nor salt so maybe a new, flashier name? A nitrosea, perhaps?
Edit: liquid methane and ethane. Not nitrogen. My comment of a new name needed stands! Methanimare!!!!!

Wouldn’t “mare” imply a sea rather than a lake? Either way this is why Titan is my favorite moon. Only known hydrological cycle not on Earth!

I don’t suppose there’s seasons that would swell the lake or not?

It’s UK 2145 after the flooding of London area.

It still upsets me that we’re not sending the probe into this lake…

This a [moon on Titan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken_Mare) for anyone who wants to save a few keystrokes.
I wonder what sized bass are lurking over there, going to bring my rod on that expedition for sure
If only we had a pipeline connecting this lake and the Earth, we could burn hydrocarbons for millennia!
It says it’s liquid methane, does that mean it’s flammable?
