“Meta have created AI models that can read and interpret brain signals to reconstruct typed sentences and map the precise neural processes that transform thoughts into spoken or written words.
The results are impressive: the AI model can decode up to 80 percent of characters typed by participants whose brain activity was recorded with MEG, which is at least twice as effective as traditional EEG systems.”

Incredible. Imagine fully paralyzed people being able to almost fully express themselves. And that’s just the beginning.

If previous attempts had 20% accuracy, and this has 25%, yes, that is “unmatched” – but it’s still shit.

I dare it 2 read my thoughts. It will develop crippling depression and anxiety. Laughing maniacally. I will poison the AI model.

this could actually be good for humanity. if this technology were able to read thoughts remotely, and people were policed and surveilled for their thoughts, people would walk around in a state of thoughtless meditation most of the day. most of our made up bullshit and personal narratives would no longer exist. i’m into it.

Huuuuuuuuuuuh. I want to see this with Brain organelles. And see what results it comes up with.

As I understand the article this machine is not reading people’s complex thoughts. It’s figuring out what letters they are typing. It’s very impressive. But, it is figuring out brain waves corresponding to thinking of 26 different “things” (letters of the alphabet). It’s not (yet) reading minds for complex ideas.

I’m waiting for the day I can put on a headphone that reads the music I play inside my head and directly outputs mp3.. that would be interessting stuff.

Wait until they start using this in interrogations, people will subconsciously reveal all their secrets, even trying not to think about it, you’d end up eventually thinking about it and they can have these hooked up to you for days and eventually your mind will wander.

How would it separate the things I actually want to type vs all those spontaneous nonsense, stupid, childish, idiotic and funny things that pop up constantly in my head and interrupt my thought process?

That’s sick, I guess we will one day just communicate through our minds to one another.

This is great, the better able we are to communicate without having to speak or type, the better off we will be.

“unmatched accuracy” doesn’t mean correct, just means better than the other contenders

Mmmmyeah … From my own experiences with EEG devices (Emotive, etc ) it might work, I’m guessing it takes some serious training to get it to work. Like, it took weeks of work to get my device to get my unit to recognize three objects at once.

Recently I’ve found one upside to the whole tech billionaire brain implant craze that I found to be rather uplifting.
If at any point they push them into the market, we know exactly which people will get these things. And all it takes is one hack and…
Yes, recent events have sent me down a dark dark path…
