      If previous attempts had 20% accuracy, and this has 25%, yes, that is “unmatched” – but it’s still shit.

      this could actually be good for humanity. if this technology were able to read thoughts remotely, and people were policed and surveilled for their thoughts, people would walk around in a state of thoughtless meditation most of the day. most of our made up bullshit and personal narratives would no longer exist. i’m into it.

      As I understand the article this machine is not reading people’s complex thoughts. It’s figuring out what letters they are typing. It’s very impressive. But, it is figuring out brain waves corresponding to thinking of 26 different “things” (letters of the alphabet). It’s not (yet) reading minds for complex ideas.

      I’m waiting for the day I can put on a headphone that reads the music I play inside my head and directly outputs mp3.. that would be interessting stuff.

      Wait until they start using this in interrogations, people will subconsciously reveal all their secrets, even trying not to think about it, you’d end up eventually thinking about it and they can have these hooked up to you for days and eventually your mind will wander.

      How would it separate the things I actually want to type vs all those spontaneous nonsense, stupid, childish, idiotic and funny things that pop up constantly in my head and interrupt my thought process?

      Mmmmyeah … From my own experiences with EEG devices (Emotive, etc ) it might work, I’m guessing it takes some serious training to get it to work. Like, it took weeks of work to get my device to get my unit to recognize three objects at once.
