So they should. What good is a peace keeping force when there is no peace deal, and any likely one will be a carve up agreed by USA/Russia.

    2. the same Germans who don’t want nuclear energy? nah thanks, rather hear it from the French.

The US Defence secretary demands that Europe enforce a peace deal Washington negotiates without either European or Ukrainian input…

I back Germany and Poland here.

    4. There will be no NATO army in Ukraine, the Russians would never agree. is that not totally obvious to everyone.

Germany acting like a recovering addict/addictive personality, like “I can’t touch it cos I’m worried I’ll go mental for it again and once it starts they’ll be no turning back, and I’ll ruin everyone’s lives around me”.

    6. Surprise surprise the Germans don’t want to upset their mistress Russia.

They are the one European nation that should hang their head in shame since Russia’s invasion.

From refusing to allow the US under Biden to use German airspace to fly in weaponry and hardware into forward NATO bases, to refusing to supply Kiev with Taurus long-range missiles, not to mention the constant erring and ahhing over how much to back Ukraine.

History will not look kindly on them.

      Because of course they did.

This is why Europe has screed up and mishandled the situation for the last 4 years. Every time someone grows some balls some cowardly prat gets in their way.

If you read the article it’s not that they disagree its that Germany would refuse to send soldiers into Ukraine.

Not that Germany have any deployable soldiers so that’s not surprising. They also have no logistic capacity to maintain soldiers in the field so none of this is surprising.

No surprise here. It goes without saying that any peacekeeping mission has to be very carefully considered before being implemented. Instant solutions will not work here.

We absolutely shouldn’t walk into Ukraine alone, cosplaying as Churchill and putting our credibility and troops on the line while the rest of Europe refuses to participate and Ukrainian refugees are partying in Spain.

Wait until Monday and see what happens with Germany. Their election is Sunday, Schulz is meant to be out on his arse, and the CDU probably the majority party, who have been vociferously pro Ukraine and anti Russia.

I know Germany had to be at the table for this chat today, but given they’re less than a week out from their federal election, their stance doesn’t necessarily mean much right now

Might actually be the first bit of smart communications/politics from Starmer. Go all big and first on a situation, broadly popular, that is very unlikely to happen.

    12. The EU has not negotiated anything, nor can they agree on an approach as a group; during Biden’s term, he made no attempt to speak with Putin. It is farcical.

    13. Who cares what Scholz has to say? He’s days away from losing an election. It’s what Merz thinks that matters now.

Tbf if there’s any risk of the AFD getting in charge I’m sure the Ukrainians would prefer not to have thousands Russian puppet troops behind their frontlines

Trump is correct in the fact that the UK does not even really have a decent army. We would be reliant to much on America.

    16. It’s telling that the countries which are closer to Russia are very much less eager to provoke Putin without a US safety net than the ones over the other side of Europe and the ones in the middle haven’t decided yet.

    17. Lots of Russian bots in these comments. Two words and a number username + a comment which is Russian propaganda is your clue. How many can you find?

    18. Germany are right. The UK’s stance borders on warmongering and at best is confontational. Many Ukrainian and Russian lives would have been saved if Boris J. hadn’t screwed up the negotiations. That is precicely why US and Russ will do this without interference. After all, it was a US led ‘initiative’, so they have to deal.

    19. What a farce! Negotiations without Ukraine.
Asking for 50% of the minerals. Sending troops to maintain peace.I wonder what their hidden agenda is /s

    20. Precisely why Russia will take Eastern Europe with a whimper from the west, mistake after mistake for twenty years
