Finally some relief. Seriously though, how accurate will we be able to predict its impact point?

Snippet from article:
>NASA says that, while it’s still an “extremely low possibility”, new observations of asteroid 2024 YR4 show the chances of it hitting Earth in 2032 have risen from 1.2% to 2.3%, and now 2.6% as of 17 February 2025.
>Asteroid 2024 YR4 is currently moving away from Earth and will soon be too faint to observe, and not visible again until June 2028, when it begins to approach our planet.

Do the world’s space agencies have a plan ready to stop the asteroid? I know that it CAN be done, but WILL anyone actually stop it?

So when the impact point is released, is it possible to buy property in time for an insurance payout?

I will only worry about this in 2028. That’s when we will have the narrowest cone of probability. For now, nothing much.

I’m pretty sure this thing is going to hit my house.

Cue spooky ghost noises… “*eVeN HiGhEr*!!!!!”. It has over 96% chance of not hitting the earth.
Honestly.

Soooo who will track it after DOGE shuts down Nasa?

The odds will keep getting higher until it either goes to 100% or it’ll drop all the way to 0% it’ll never go down to a percent lower than it is that isn’t 0.

Let’s fucking go! I’m so ready for us all to be wiped of the face of the planet at the same time.

Does earth have a large enough gravity well to suck it in if it gets close enough anyway or is that unlikely?

Which part of the Earth do the scientists think it will hit? Or is that too soon to calculate?

Those ‘Giant Meteor 2028’ yard signs are going to be popular.

What are the chances that they have the sizing wrong? Is there a chance it could be bigger than expected? Not like a mile wide one but something say, twice the size they think?

Let’s do this, asteroid! I for one am excited to welcome our new friend.

[(it’s 3.1% now)](https://www.livescience.com/space/asteroids/chance-of-city-killer-asteroid-2024-yr4-smashing-into-earth-rises-yet-again-to-3-1-percent-nasa-reports)
>And, while it’s possible the asteroid will be ruled out as an impact hazard, the chances of it hitting Earth are likely to rise further.
>NASA also says the [James Webb Space Telescope will be used to track the asteroid](https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/news/webb-telescope-to-observe-asteroid-2024-yr4) in March 2025, but 2024 YR4 will disappear from view by the end of April 2025.

I could stop this stupid fucking rock instantly, just send me in.
I’m so glad we’re laying off scientists. Timely, just like officials at the FAA. Or bird-flu experts at the USDA.
Already much much higher than my match rate on Hinge.
