    1. > Jos Verstappen, Max’s father and former F1 driver, told RaceXpress over the weekend that it was “unacceptable” that his son was booed by the 15,000-strong crowd

What a smart way to ensure that he will be booed everywhere he goes for the rest of his life.

I’m surprised he cares so much. He gives off the impression that he couldn’t care less about what fans think of him.

Verstappen is guilty of being right on the edge (and sometimes over it) in terms of sportsmanship. Ironically the darling of legacy F1 fans – and Lewis Hamilton – Ayrton Senna, was every bit as uncompromising and then some. I wouldn’t boo him (and it’s all a bit pantomime, anyway) but meh.

Horner though should try not creeping on his employees and cheating on his wife, as well as desperately gurning to the cameras every chance he gets and maybe he’d get a better reception.

The info in the article though comes from Verstappen senior, who is a scummy lowlife. I don’t think he can be giving out to anybody else about standards when it comes to personal conduct.

I’ve not watched F1 in years, why were they booing him? He’s always seemed like a decent enough guy to me?

    5. That’s what happens when you’ve been an unsporting and borderline dangerous driver for years, whilst making it abundantly clear you don’t care about any media engagement.

Does he honestly expect fans to applaud him? Surely his own team have had a word with him multiple times.

No idea why he was bood, but the fact he’s had a tantrum about it makes it hilarious…. BOOOOO!

    7. >He also says: ‘If this is in England again next year, they certainly won’t see me there

      Oh no! Anyway….

    8. STANDARD_P0TAT0 on

Title is misleading, and article does not mention what Max really said. All quotes are from his father Jos Verstappen.

Max has been booed by a lot of people in the past. One of them by the Tifosi after the Italian GP in 2022. He’s not petty enough to boycott over something like this.

    9. For someone who’s happy to throw out racist and ableist slurs, he seems to be a bit overly sensitive when someone expresses their opinions of him.

Maybe he should reflect on his own behaviour before criticising others.

    10. And exactly who would his boycotting hurt other than himself, his team and his sponsors? Or does he seriously think the F1 season can’t start without him?

    11. maltesepricklypear on

Lol imagine if he skipped through the British GP and the season contender at Yas Marina means he lost the season on a single point.

      That would be poetry.

I like Max, and was a staunch supporter during the Hamilton robbed season.

But I like eras to be broken, and for me wanted someone different to win compounded with 2021 being the best season of the recent times.

Come on Lando, we need you. But silently hoping Hamilton and Ferrari pull through.

    12. And they say Hamilton fans should stop crying. Jog on Max. You’re disliked because you’re a bully on track. And you know it.

    13. The anti-Max sentiment in here is wild; give the guy a break he’s currently by far the best driver in F1, grew up in an abusive family, has every English commentator against him with comments like “Max having a tantrum” and infantalising him, has MBS on his ass constantly for saying mean mean words, is forced to take part in various events that show him off like a dancing monkey..

Put some respect on his damn name, he is a 4 time world champion.

    14. Horner to Max:
“Oh, they’re not booing you, Sir, they’re shouting “Boo-urns! Boo-urns!”

    15. therealhairykrishna on

I’m not sure that threatening to go away if they boo him more is quite the threat that he thinks it is.

    16. Willing_Coconut4364 on

Yeah, as he said, it’s in England. What else can he expect here. Lewis probably gets the same treatment in Netherlands.

Also, it’s just English culture, we enjoy a good booing, but it’s not aggressive like un Europe.

    17. And the Dutch crowd jeering and booing Lewis Hamilton when he crashed out in Austria 2022? Not the same right?

    18. Boo for thee, but not for me……

      Max:

Asked whether he wanted to send a message to fans at Zandvoort to show more respect for his title rival this weekend, Verstappen said the booing was inevitable.

“I look at it like this, when you go to a football match, you come into the home ground, the opposition will be booed at some point and it’s not up to the local club to go on to the speakers and say ‘guys, you cannot boo,’ as it will naturally happen,” Verstappen said.

    19. Omega_scriptura on

Shouldn’t have stolen a world championship then, should he? Can’t do the time don’t do the crime. He’ll be booed for the rest of his career.

    20. They’re Dutch thinking their cultural ‘directness’ is something others need to take on the chin – until the roles are reversed. Typical.

    21. What else did he expect? It’s more than just him being the dominant drive of the past few seasons. He knows why real fans of the sport hate him. He knows what he accepted wasn’t in any way legitimate. Yet he continues to play pretend with WDC’s. He has the power to change this. He could do the right thing.

    22. Clearly no one actually read the article. At no point does Max say this or is even quoted, it’s just his father Jos complaining. The Mirror knows what they’re doing with that headline though

    23. NoobToobinStinkMitt on

The Launch even was in London. Nuff said. Shit Tier Fans. This is known throughout the world actually. Look at all the Hamilton whiners in the comments. Move it anywhere else.

    24. Why does anyone care what Jos says….

And besides I take it all the Brit’s will now boycott Dutch F1 events for the booing? Or did they forget that point?

    25. The thin skin, these drivers have now is laughable. American NASCAR drivers are giant spoiled babies, as well.
