I’d start with the kids father love. She doesn’t seem too embarrassed to demand the rest of us step up.
Mission-Raccoon979 on
Where are the kids’ father(s), I wonder? It must be tough trying to bring kids up when you’ve only got one income to rely on. Men should take responsibility for their kids.
Edit. My intention in writing this post was to wonder about the father(s). The news article didn’t mention him or them (I am making no assumptions here). I’m thinking that if I was the dad of these kids I’d want to be helping out as much as I can. That’s what I believe responsible people (of all genders and sexes) should do. Perhaps there’s a reason for why he’s not around. I wanted to hear what that was. The story seemed incomplete and I was wondering if anyone else felt it was too. Perhaps others feel it’s not relevant but as a dad of an autistic child, I thought it was.
I apologise if anyone took my post another way.

According to OFGEM, energy suppliers are not allowed to force someone to accept a prepayment meter if there are vulnerable people in the property. So tough shit debt collectors, you’ll have to accept whatever payment she can afford.
Had to make this choice many times. Choose eating over heating and all huddle up under a blanket together like fucking penguins.
It sucks. It shouldn’t be the case. But it’s the best I can do.

The sad thing is this isn’t an isolated case, In my line of work I support families in the same situation daily. One of the richest countries in the world allows its poor and vulnerable to live like this, this government has the means to lift these people out of poverty and instead has decided to increase spending massively on weapons of death. The amount of sickening comments like “sTaRt WiTh ThE fAtHeR” “pUt A cOaT oN” on here really is shocking. Just remember the bulk of you are one missing pay day away from the same situation as this family and I hope you never find yourself facing the same choice.

There is no mention of citizens advice here. It doesn’t mention energy tariffs either. There are plenty of tariffs that will keep her on a fixed price 10% below the price cap, according to Martin Lewis anyway. She needs advice and help, not some shonky write up in the local rag.

Obviously, everyone’s situation is different, but my sister has 3 kids. The dad died when they were young, and one of the kids is disabled. He was a waster and left her nothing whatsoever. She is given more a month than mine and my partners salary combined, and we are above the average household income.
These articles really do annoy me because, as a country, we really do give a lot of money to people with kids and disabilities
Quick maths: she receives £333.33 per month for the first child, £287.92 for the second child, £184.30 per week in DLA, and then add her carers allowance of £81.90 per week. This brings her total to £1,774.78 a month. This figure is not subject to tax, so is what she gets in her bank.
This doesn’t include any housing allowances, council tax reductions, or anything else she might be entitled to.

Why is there such a large percentage of white women who are single mothers. Like me checking my Facebook friend from school etc all the south asians I can see are happily married, but many of my white friends I notice always are separated. Is it a culture thing meeting the wrong guy and having kids, found a person in a pub bar etc.

So she gets disability living allowance for 2 children which can range up to £186.00 weekly per child, universal credit (so would get the 600 heating allowance) rent paid council tax paid the universal credit money which will include the disability premiums for her two children I don’t know what else she wants

Haven’t had the heating on since covid fucked the economy and I have no interest in giving these greedy companies my hard earned money when they report record profits each year. I just wear more layers. Thick socks, snoodie and fluffy pajamas work a treat. Maybe use a hot water bottle on the colder days, not had an issue. I keep the house well ventilated, even some windows open and have dehumidifiers running

What’s been a massive kick in the teeth lately (mad rent, the usual HMRC having it’s cut and council tax) is there are a shitload of people paying for the basics, working their bollocks off and getting zero UC.
Then he/she looks to his/her left and right – other people skipping the whole work thing (because it’s ‘not for them’) when they’re fully capable of doing so and getting UC support to make ends meet.
Feels ethically immoral.

In the early 2000’s, Shameless was a TV show about a family claiming benefits on a council estate. Now it’s just several hundred people with two homes paid for by taxes in Westminster thinking our having *hundreds of thousands in temporary accommodation*, plus dozens of children **dying** in temporary accommodation is acceptable. It’s not (the current) Labour’s fault but we somehow ended up back in the 19th f**king century.
