‘Shadow of a Gunman’
A production of “Shadow of a Gunman,” will be staged by the Scranton Shakespeare Festival at The Shakes Space in the Marketplace at Steamtown, 300 Lackawanna Ave. The Séan O’Casey play, set in Dublin during the Irish war for independence, is a story of mistaken identity amid political unrest. Montage Mountainfest
There will be plenty of live music throughout Friday and Saturday at Montage Mountainfest. On Friday, Preston & Steve’s Cardboard Classic sledding contest will be followed by the World’s Largest ’80s Party, featuring M80’s a tribute to MTV. The sled race starts at 10 a.m. Saturday there is a pond skimming competition and a concert with the band Tonic, followed by multi-platinum alt-rock band, Better Than Ezra. Tonic goes on the Mountainfest stage at 2:30 p.m. Better than Ezra goes on at 5, prior to a fireworks show. Battle of the Bards
Anyone can take the stage, no memorization needed, to put on plays in a party atmosphere at the V-Spot Bar on Sunday. In the Battle of the Bards, local playwrights have two days to write a short play. Scripts are passed out to volunteer actors, who take them on stage the same night to perform. West Point Band
The U.S. Military Academy band will present “West Point on the March,” a free concert, Saturday, at the Scranton Cultural Center. The program will include classics of the military march genre, such as the work of John Philip Sousa. The West Point Brass Quintet will showcase the music of a New Orleans funeral, followed by pieces inspired by the 1963 March on Washington, including Bob Dylan’s “When the Ship Comes In” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.” The concert will end with movie marches from “Indiana Jones” and “The Music Man.” The 7 p.m. show is free, but tickets are required.
