Greece, N.Y. — The Greece Central School District’s Board of Education voted Tuesday to grant veterans and their spouses a tax break.
The exemption reduces the assessed value of veterans’ homes for for school property tax purposes. After it’s implemented, the tax break will shift the burden to the rest of the community.
The board estimates that the tax break will lead to an increase of 45 cents per $1,000 of assessed value in school tax rate.
“It’ll help [veterans’] income, that’s for sure,” Army veteran Timothy Smith said.
The exemption will take effect for the 2026-27 school year.
