MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Mid-Level State Conference was held Friday morning at Meridian Community College.

Many students from around the state gathered at the college’s McCain Theater, and 518 middle school students participated. There was a wide array of business-themed competitive events, such as business etiquette, digital citizenship, and exploring economics, for the students.

Levi Berry, a 7th-grade student at Kosciusko Junior High, discusses the importance of FBLA and how it prepares students for the real world.

“I would say it prepares us for like if we want to take a business route in life, we could. It prepares us with financial skills, and there’s computer programming. It does all that stuff. There’s even a video game design for it, and it just prepares you for any category of life that goes around the business area,” Berry says.

Patrick Tillman, an 8th-grade student at Lake Middle School, discusses what FBLA entails and how it prepares him for his future.

“It entails just meeting other people in the world you know, coming together, doing competitions, doing interviews, doing presentations. That’s pretty much it to meet other people. I believe it prepares me for career readiness, such as, you know, personal speaking skills, group speaking skills and certain things like that,” Tillman says.

These students had such a great time at the mid-state conference getting prepared for whatever they chose to do within their careers.
