BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) – A fun and fabulous form of entertainment returns to Blytheville after 40 years.
“I realized how much fun it was, and how awesome it is, to bring a community together with all these different people that don’t perform for a living, so you got a bunch of people who aren’t professionals, really having fun, having a good time,” said the Director of the Fabulous 50s Follies Show Chris Fettig.
Follies Shows are fun, variety shows filled with singing, dancing, acting, and plenty of comedy.
For the one coming up in Blytheville, it is 50s-themed.
One thing that makes Follies different may be the short prep time before taking the act to the stage.
“It works really fast,” said Fettig. “I always say to people, if they have ever been in an actual theatrical production, they know that two weeks is not enough rehearsal to get something stage-worthy, but that is the way Follies work. So, I think part of the success of the Follies, and the excitement on stage for the performers, is the fear.”
With the return of Follies Shows in Blytheville, the President of the Ritz Foundation Board Laura Harrison Ellis said it’s a great way to bring back something for the older audience while introducing something new to a younger crowd.
As for putting on this Follie, it has been a collaborative effort.
“We have had people from all the school districts, Blytheville, Gosnell, Armorel, we have had a lot of local civic clubs, a lot of local churches, so a lot of people from all walks of life, and who we didn’t even know lived in this small town with us, have been involved in this show,” said Ellis.
The showtimes are Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m.
You can purchase tickets at the door of The Ritz or online at the Blytheville Ritz Foundation Facebook page.
