DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Minnesota Power announced Monday that the company plans to achieve 90% renewable energy and replace coal by 2035.
The news comes as the company files its 2025 Integrated Resource Plan with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.
This will be a part of their Energy Foward strategy, which outlines the next steps to provide safe and reliable energy to customers while reducing carbon emissions and keeping bills as low as possible.
More specifically, Minnesota Power hopes to add 400 megawatts of new wind projects and expand energy storage resources by 100 megawatts within the next 10 years.
The company says they have reshaped its power supply, delivering nearly 60% renewable energy to customers, the most in the state of Minnesota.
More information about the plan can be found here.
