The Regulatory Commission has rejected the request to extend the deadline for diaspora registration with a majority vote.

A few days ago, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha proposed the extension, while Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi stated that March 9 could be the final deadline for diaspora registration.

Today, the Regulatory Commission voted against the request, with three Socialist Party representatives opposing it, while two Democratic Party representatives supported it.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has set midnight on March 4 as the final deadline for diaspora registration ahead of the May 11 elections.

So far, more than 228,000 Albanians living abroad have been granted the right to vote from their country of residence.

Additionally, over 14,000 applicants are still awaiting registration, while the number of rejected applications exceeds 42,000.
