I love how they’re still trying to make the attempted pogrom last summer retroactively “okay” via these complaints of two-tier policing.

It’s a response to BAME convicts currently being more likely to get a custodial sentence, and BAME job applicants (with equalised CVs) already needing to send more applications to get interviews, which custodial sentences could in some cases compound (employment gap). It’s not “you will get a lower sentence if you’re in these groups”, but that more will be taken into consideration. This also applies to people who are known to have mental health issues, be victims of abuse, have long-term health issues or other circumstances that could be mitigating or could make them at greater risk of harm in prison. Maybe some rationale is to do with certain psychological stresses being more correlated (not 100% correlated) with being certain minorities?

It’s not a Labour policy, as the Sentencing Council is independent.

This is covers a VERY large cohort of the people that are likely to be convicted of a crime.

I’m not in favour of ethnicity being a reason to give someone a shorter sentence but, as always, the Telegraph headline (and politicians) are being misleading here.

Anything to convince you the poor man of a different race is your enemy rather than the rich man living in the damn castle looking down on you both. You guys think a country as racist and populism-driven as the UK is actually fucking over the white man in favour of ethnic minorities who have literally almost zero social power in this country? Use your critical thinking skills for 3 seconds. Who would even be ready to believe this other than moronic racists? It would be lovely if all your issues in the world turned out to be because of some insane planned out invasion by a bunch of people from different, impoverished, unstable countries, all planning one of the grandest most convoluted conspiracies ever in the world. What if the accused identifies as mixed race or as an ethnic minority despite appearing to be white?

“I am who I say I am, you must respect my identity” how does this play out?

What if, at first glance, I appear to be a Caucasian male but identify as a woman of mixed race, doI get a pass?

Of course the telegraph cherrypicks it to only ethnic minorities but it is true, for some reason women get preferential treatment aswell so nice to see that if you’re a white man you are just fucked but pretty much everyone else gets preferential treatment whatever that means.

I don’t think there should be any mitigating factors considered. Treat equal crimes equally.
