One of the East Valley’s signature entertainment groups is marking a half century of music with some good food.

The Barleens Dinner Show in Apache Junction features the Barleen Trio – Brenda, Barbara and Jef – who have been entertaining audiences since 1975 from Missouri to Arizona.

For its 38th season, the dinner theater, 2275 E. Old West Highway, Apache Junction, presents six diverse shows featuring rock and roll and country hits Wednesday through Saturday evenings until April 19 with select matinees.

“Guests enjoy a delicious meal followed by a spectacular show that commends decades of musical excellence,” a spokeswoman said. “The Barleens Dinner Show is a beloved institution that promises an unforgettable experience.”

The Barleens Dinner Show boasts a rich history, deeply rooted in the family’s musical legacy spanning generations.

The Barleens’ musical tradition began with the trio’s great-grandfather, Albert Loofburrow, and grandfather, Charles Barleen, both notable barn dance fiddlers in Kansas. Their father, Lloyd Barleen, continued their legacy, starting his musical journey at age 11 with a Sears & Roebuck mandolin in his family’s music parlor.

Originally performing in the Ozarks, Springfield, and Branson, Missouri, the Barleen Trio quickly gained recognition by winning both the KTTS radio talent search and the Presley Mountain Music talent contest.

These achievements led to appearances on Gary White’s Midnite Opry and the renowned Ozark Jubilee, solidifying their place in the music scene.

Recognizing their passion and potential, their father and brother Jim built a dinner theater in Estes Park, Colorado, in 1978, where Brenda, Barbara, and Jef entertained audiences for 16 summers.

In 1986, they expanded their performances to the intimate 396-seat theater in Apache Junction. For over three decades, their winter shows have charmed audiences and become a respected family tradition.

Today, the show features the celebrated trio accompanied by talented musicians who have toured nationally and internationally with prominent artists.

Audiences can enjoy signature shows like Variety Spectacular, #1 Hits Variety Show, Rockin’ & Rollin’ through the Years, Real Country, Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Season’s Best.
