New Zealand club football will share in the distribution of a NZ$1.73 billion prize pot from this year’s revamped FIFA Men’s Club World Cup.
Gobal governing body FIFA says their revised budget for the 32-club tournament — at which Auckland City will represent Oceania — forecasts total revenue of US$2 billion, of which half will be distributed as prizemoney.
FIFA says this “will set a new benchmark for global club football, with US$1 billion ($NZ1.73 billion) distributed to participating clubs and provision for a solidarity mechanism that will be dedicated to club football across the world.”
“The FIFA Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football, but also a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs at large to a scale that no other competition has ever done,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said.
“All revenue generated by the tournament will be distributed to the participating clubs and via club solidarity across the world as FIFA will not keep a single dollar.
“FIFA’s reserves, which are there for global football development, will remain untouched.”
The split of the prizemoney and how money will be distributed to non-participating clubs through the solidarity process has yet to be explained by FIFA.
Sky Sports News UK have explained their understanding of the revenue arrangement in this report:
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup starts on June 14 in the United States, with Auckland City kicking off their campaign against six-time UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich on June 15.
The tournament will be held every four years.
