LEA COUNTY, New Mexico (KCBD) – The New Mexico Health Department says there are now 30 cases of measles in New Mexico.
This is a jump in 20 cases since the last update, which included one death. That person tested positive for the measles after their death.
Officials say the person was not vaccinated and didn’t see a doctor before they died.
Half of the cases in Lea County are in adults 18 years or older. The state is offering a free vaccine clinic on Tuesday.
The agency will provide the MMR vaccine in Hobbs and Lovington from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Those interested can go to the public health office in Hobbs near N. Del Paso and E. Michigan Dr.
In Lovington, the office is near W. Adams and N. Fifth St. If someone is showing symptoms, the office asks to call ahead so no one is exposed at either office.
