India will be looking to stamp their authority over world cricket yet again as they take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday.

Aiming for their first Champions Trophy title since 2013, India are the only team that has is unbeaten in the tournament so far. They clinched a place in the final with a comfortable four-wicket win over Australia. If they win, this will be India’s second ICC trophy in two years after they captured the World T20 title in 2024.

On the other side, New Zealand is desperately waiting to end their 25-year-long drought for the 50-over ICC title. The Kiwis, whose first and only Champions Trophy title came in 2000, however have looked impressive under Mitchell Santner. Centuries by Rachin Ravindra and former captain Kane Williamson helped them bury South Africa under a mountain of runs in the semifinals.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

India vs. New Zealand team news, predicted lineups

Virat Kohli has found his touch again and has been consistent throughout the tournament. India will once again rely on big man to perform one more time, in the high-stakes clash on Sunday.

While India’s opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hasn’t quite clicked in the Champions trophy, their striking ability against pace bowlers is something that can’t be taken lightly. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel are providing crucial strength in the middle overs for the team.

Shami, who took three wickets in the first semi-final against Australia, will once again spearhead the pace bowling attack. New Zealand has a number of left-handed batters might pose a threat to the Indian bowlers. The Indian team management may negate that by bringing in off-spinner Washington Sundar, who is also a handy bat, in place of Kuldeep Yadav.

India predicted XI: Rohit (c), Gill, Virat, Iyer, Rahul (wk), Axar, Jadeja, Hardik, Varun, Shami, Sundar.

New Zealand’s only defeat in the tournament came at the hands of India, in the group stage. The team will be keen to exact revenge, especially with Ravindra and Williamson in good nick.

Daryl Mitchell, who came in for an out-of-form Devon Conway, may take the field against India too. He not only provides stability in the middle order but also gives them a bowling option.

New Zealand’s pace bowler Matt Henry suffered a shoulder injury in the semis against South Africa, and may be forced out of the final. In case Henry sits out, Jacob Duffy, another reliable pacer waiting for his opportunity, could find his place in the starting XI.

New Zealand predicted XI: Young, Williamson, Ravindra, Mitchell, Latham (wk), Santner, Phillips, Bracewell, Duffy, O’Rourke, Jamieson.
