Good. These are core parts of the character.
You can make a film or a TV show about a female spy or an American spy, and that film or show could be amazing, but you’ve not made a film or show about James Bond.
They’ll find a way to ruin it. 50/50 chance with Amazon to make a banger or some dog poop
They killed off Bond
They very deliberately did not kill off OO7 , and they made a point of the fact that OO7 will be handed to another person if/when Bond is dead
You can get rid of this entire problem, and continue the universe , its feel, and all associated characters, and the only thing you need to say goodbye to is the line “bond, james bond”

I feel like there has never been any serious talk of Bond becoming female. It feels like something people keep just making up so they have something to get mad about.

I’d rather new stories be made for underrepresented or minority groups; stepping into the clothes of established characters and franchises feels a little regressive to me.

Well they teased with the black female 007 in the last movie, it wasn’t received well. I dont think its about race, its about trying to keep true to its roots. Likeable characters being gender swapped or race swapped has never been seen positive. I always thought the idea of idris elba being a good 007. Maybe thats because i liked the tv series Luther.

The fact that they needed to confirm James Bond would remain both male and British says a lot about the way the film industry has been screwing with things.
Surely even the most fanatical activists know Bond has to be male and British ffs.
There are almost more spy movies with female protagonists than dudes at this point anyway. And they are all masters of that crotch-to-face-thigh-grip-spin-and-snap-neck move that hollywood loves so much.

Original Canon – Reboot James Bond as a series following the original stories adapted again + new stories in between, set in 1951 onwards, classic book accurate Bond
Prequel film/miniseries – 001 or the story of how the double agents came to be, set WW1 or earlier maybe
Modern day – His Majesty’s Secret Service usual modern day thriller/spy show, but the 00 program has recently been restarted, multiple agents, all British, all genders/races that are common in the UK, recruited for different missions to different environments, gives everyone representation but also makes it much more believable as a secret agent blends into the country, not the only white guy in a bar in Nigeria etc
