  1. NASA complying (like any other department) and not going into a general strike is some weak corn.

  2. And this is how we’re going to compete with China? Lol. This is all about destroying the country and turning into a serfdom for billionaires.

  3. What the hell, America. Are you going to destroy everything that’s admirable in your country?

  4. So NASA is going to have to take a 4 year hiatus on science and discovery, because the moron in the whitehouse can’t “do sciency things”.

  5. Space Force budget is already higher than NASA’s. Our investment in space technology is not being abandoned, just reallocated.

Looks like the dawning of a new kind of Silicon Valley. Come to Carinthia, we could need you.

  7. Thank god! Now we can afford more tax breaks for Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg.

Fun fact: Did you know that those three individuals have a combined net worth of $773 billion?

  8. Nationwide brain drain is in full effect. There’s no incentive for these people to stick around. They can go to other countries with emerging space programs like India, South Korea, or Japan… get paid well, not live in constant fear of the Orangenführer & Elonia, and not be treated like sh*t.

  9. And the brain drain continues. Countries that actually value science will scoop up our nation’s intellectuals and leave us technologically in the dust.

  10. Gee, I wonder who’s going to take over that role when it folds and they privatize it?

  11. Trump arbitrarily deciding that America should not be #1. Just like so many people say to defend him, “He didn’t mean that”, also applied to MAGA.

  12. And how NASA is suppose to achieve the goals set for them by this administration? Ah right, by paying someone else to do it…

  13. Any Elon Musk fanbois want to chime in and talk about how great this is for the future of the US space program and exploration of the next frontier?

No? C’mon guys, this is exactly what you wanted, right?

    Right?

As someone just about to enter the Post-Doc market in planetary sciences, and someone who was dead set on moving to the States, I’m afraid I’ll be looking at Europe. Which, for me anyways, is much more aligned with my values and way of life anyways. See ya later suckers.

  15. After the Second World War the US gave homes to many Nazi rocket scientists who helped to start their space program. I’m sure other countries will welcome fired NASA scientists with open arms.

NASA has confirmed at least 750 voluntary departures via buyouts and the elimination of 23 jobs tied to the closure of three offices.

I guess Jared Isaacman doesn’t mind the firings at all.. he probably wants to have a smaller NASA anyhow…

  18. so, ditched our allies, sided with russia, angered canada and now nasa cuts. nasa was/is the thing i love about the us. one idiot, who did an ad today that was covered like a white house briefing to help his poor friend sell cars. how much lower can we go?

  19. There are a lot of things not great about this announcement, the way civil servants are being treated, and worries about future funding levels.

But, this was a RIF (firing) of 23 people – which is perhaps debatable if it counts as a “mass firing” for an organization on the scale of NASA. Also worth keeping in mind that OCS is an independent advisory role, and this has not (yet) affected the astronomers, planetary scientists, etc , who all work over in the separate Science Mission Directorate.

  20. Those scientists will find jobs but America will lose those bright minds.

The NASA budget is absolutely tiny compared to the military budget where it would basically be a rounding error. Science funding also almost always has massive returns, innovation is what keeps us moving forward. Trump and his goons want everything to move backwards.

  21. There are a bunch of sub-reddits that have a history of being rather pro-Elon and/or pro-Republican – r/space being one of them.

It’s been fun watching all the people here who, just months ago, absolutely adored Trump and Musk, ***slowly*** turn on them.
