COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Dominion Energy has donated two new underwater sonar devices to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to help in search and rescue operations on Lake Murray.
“We are grateful to Dominion Energy for making such an important donation to a local law enforcement partner,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “These devices will be valuable tools as we work to keep the water and shoreline of Lake Murray safe.”
The devices, funded through a $16,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, were presented during a ceremony at Bundrick Island on March 11. The handheld sonar units can scan up to 165 feet underwater, providing critical visibility in murky conditions during emergency searches.
“The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department works tirelessly to serve and protect visitors and residents,” said Dominion Energy South Carolina President Keller Kissam. “We’re proud to support their efforts with advanced technology that can act as their eyes underwater during an emergency.”
Lake Murray, spanning 50,000 acres, is patrolled year-round by the sheriff’s department in partnership with Dominion Energy.
