In Alcala de Henares, residents gathered along the Henares River to observe the strong current, as authorities warned that heavy rain and the release of water from reservoirs in the Madrid region have raised the river to its highest level in five years.

Emergency services also raised concerns over the Guadarrama River, which is nearing overflow levels as it passes through Collado Villalba, located about 25 miles from Madrid.

The Spanish state weather agency, Aemet, has issued yellow rain alerts for parts of Catalonia and Andalusia.
