ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – Quad City environmental groups held a second “Roost-In” at Rock Island City Council’s meeting on Monday.
Protestors said the city’s plan to build a mini-mart in Milan Bottoms could have detrimental impacts on the area’s wildlife, especially eagles.
Kelly McKay, a wildlife biologist, said eagles won’t tolerate the activity that’s likely to come from the proposed development.
“I’d like to see them relocate this development,” McKay said. “We’re not telling them don’t do the development, we’re saying don’t do it there, because of the sensitivity of this site to bald eagles.”
City officials have previously met with these groups to discuss the proposed development.
In Feb, city officials met with members of the Sierra Eagle Group and others to discuss the proposed development.
Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms said they were able to correct some misunderstandings and misperceptions during that meeting and the city heard the group’s points of view.
