Happens all the time in Singapore, Hong Kong, and other non-western counties. Landlords are afraid of cleaning costs because of the way indian cooking embeds itself into every surface or having their house trashed by tenants who pack the house with people who aren’t on the lease or otherwise don’t follow the rules. There are enough horror stories that landlords in western countries may try to tiptoe around regulations to avoid an Indian tenant.

  2. but way they are treating apartments is a big no no no….. 😊 you need to renovate house again.

Plus, if one person is renting a Apartment, after some days you will see 5 – 6 person living inside.

  3. In Tokyo I once picked up a mirror I bought on FB marketplace from 2 Indian guys. The apartment stank and was disgustingly dirty 🤢🤢🤢 so I understand where the landlord is coming from.

But at the same time I have several friends from India who are very clean and organised. There are such and such people.

I think it’s possible to word it differently. Or ask the prospective tenant about their cleaning habits. If they have no idea what a sponge is, you can refuse them.

This is an agent. Look for owners. I am Russian, some may demand to see my telegram or not want Russians (never was rejected though)

I once heard that Indian tenants tried to build a whole garden for herbs indoors(in the living room), which resulted in the water draining through the floor and into the neighbor’s house.

When the owner went to check what the problem was, she found this herb garden in the middle of her living room and 12-13 tenants living there(as opposed to 3 which was the agreement)

You can hear stories about Indian tenants trashing the house and abusing the contract with owners daily here. It’s sad, but true, so I’m not really surprised to see many owners aren’t eager to rent out the house to Indians.

  6. For everyone commenting, no matter your personal experience with Indians, remember that every human is capable of shitty behavior. Just because a certain race did something bad doesn’t mean they should be specifically targeted and excluded. You don’t need to have brown skin to be an asshole.

Everyone should be allowed to do with their property whatever they wish.

I believe all of this can be managed. This can be found in almost any country, I believe.

I do not support this, but I understand where landlords are coming from. Most of you heard a thing or two that can happen if Indian or Arab people rent the apartment — obviously it is not the case most (?) of the time, but a bunch of filthy idiots will portray everyone else in a bad light.

It’s like Russians, Brits, and Aussies in Thailand or Chinese in… well, pretty much everywhere. Some nations just have it more rough than others — some way more though like Indians. I doubt many people will think about Japanese in bad light, but it does not mean there are no Japanese people who will trash the apartment. Idiots are everywhere after all.

Still I do think that communication is the key and can solve such situations if a person is being honest and open with a landlord.

No hard feelings I live in EU and Indians smell here too, on the contrary I’ve also met Indians who don’t smell, but 8/10 do unfortunately… I come from an asian country and they’re also not the greatest tourist there.. (known to haggle and make problems in a 3rd world country) we have chinese, russian and all the worst types of tourists you can imagine.. I think it’s just the case of preference of the apartments owner here. Don’t get me wrong I’m brown skinned too, I just think it’s their choice.

I’m looking for a new flat now and some people have the weirdest requirements. They don’t rent to students— only rent to students— only rent to girls— only rent to guys— don’t rent to foreigners— don’t rent to Russians/Indians/Arabs— don’t rent to Georgians— don’t rent to families — don’t rent to families but will rent to a დედა-შვილი — don’t rent to families with kids— don’t want animals — etc etc etc. Whenever I see something like that I know instantly that that’s not the kind of landlord I want to rent from, no matter whether I fit the category or not, and just close the listing

This doesn’t surprise me..and the fact that people are condoning this….This is exactly y Georgia is a sheet country.

  13. As a indian I can say this not racism, it’s their house their rules ,heck even I agree most Indians lack civil sense and smell like spices andmost don’t try to change when they move abroad

Personally I don’t like spicy food and pay renti n time so my landlord is happy lol

  14. SnooDonuts2663 on

    Well, this sounds really wrong.
But Unfortunately, I can understand why. I had multiple interactions with Indians while delivering food.
Every time (9/10 Times) they opened the door house is dirty and smells is impossible to handle. Also all apartments are extremely crowded.
I don’t believe that it’s coincidence. Probably landlords should Raise rent and be ready to renovate the apartment in this case.
