At 1:00 of this morning, Sunday, March 23, the collapse of the Old Bridge or Santa Catalina in the Toledo municipality of Talavera de la Reina has been captured due to the increase in the flow of the Tagus due to the Borrasca Martinho.

The bridge is a good of cultural interest and, although the collapse has not been complete, this misfortune supposes a patrimonial loss, as the mayor of the city, José Julián Gregorio López assures. It is estimated that the first foundations of the bridge were built before the Roman era, that is, more than twenty -one centuries ago, and has remained firm and intact so far.

The neighbors lie dismayed and ask for help from the institutions. The president of the Popular Party has already planned his visit to Talavera de la Reina to evaluate the situation and be able to prevent it from happening again in other parts of the Tagus.

I leave you the mayor’s testimony in X: "Tonight is a terrible day for the history of Talavera. Our old or Roman bridge has just collapsed a part. A terrible water avenue for the city. Thank you that we close it for the citizen step. Today my heart as mayor suffers from this patrimonial loss".

Finally, I want to proclaim that more effort should be made in the conservation of the rich history of our country. These events are not being taken into account that, as the Talabricenses neighbors have pointed out, are a misfortune for the city.

Una gran pérdida cultural. Ojalá se pueda hacer algo al respecto lo antes posible.

Otra figura del fascismo destruida, ojalá le pase lo mismo a la cruz del valle.
