MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State track and field team will be represented at two meets this weekend for the second week of outdoor competition. Getting the weekend started, members of the distance squad will head to St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday (Mar. 27) to run their first races of the season at the WashU Distance Carnival. Then on Saturday (Mar. 29), the Cardinals will head west to Indiana State’s Pacesetter Sports Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Last Time Out: 

Most recently, Ball State track and field opened its outdoor stint at the TCU Alumni Invite in Fort Worth, Texas. The team came away with nine personal best performances as well as multiple top placers. 

Junior thrower, Malena Higgins, had a particularly successful weekend after hitting a huge improvement in her discus throw. Higgins hit a mark of 46.13 meters, smashing her old personal best by almost 10 meters and securing a spot in the Ball State record book as the fifth farthest outdoor discus finish. 

Also having a standout meet was senior multis athlete, Kenli Nettles. Nettles opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, hitting a height of 1.70 meters right behind Cardinals high jumper Malina Miller who finished third. Nettles went on to run a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing fifth in a field of 23 with a time of 1:01.51. In her final event, Nettles joined the 4×400-meter relay team, finishing fifth in 3:52.27. 

Up Next: 

Following this two-meet weekend, the Cardinals will look ahead to Friday, Apr. 4 when they will travel to Athens, Ohio for Ohio’s Cherry Blossom Invitational.
