    1. Lets see how many will be happy to take the deal they currently deem insufficient once they realise the council can and will just replace them.

    2. I can’t say I’m surprised. I thought the council was bankrupt after the Unite and GMB union legal action against them.

What would happen if Birmingham City Council just dissolves itself? Can’t be pleasant working on this council and surely they have just had enough by now

Everyone delighted to replace these people may want to hold on a second. If it happens to the bin men, it won’t be too long and it’ll be happening to you.

Oh fuck me, if they really cared this much about getting the waste off the streets why don’t they just stop their decision to fire 70 people. I mean really, they want to put more pressure on the other workers without a pay rise while making them all job insecure.

And all their offering is a poxy NVQ or street cleaning instead? And now they’re just gonna fire the lot of them?

Actually pathetic from the council, I hope these lads go further than just strikes next. Start collecting it and piling it outside the homes of the councillors and council building, see how quick they change their tune.

Good, they shouldn’t be able to hold everyone in the city to ransom like some sort of mafia group from 1980s southern Italy.

    9. In all seriousness the government needs to step in as we don’t want civil disobedience over bin collections.

    10. IMO the deals they are being offered are actually quite good. It’s not just one avenue either, they can take the grade and do the same job at a different grade level at same pay or go and get fully funded HG licenses which is very good, take voluntary redundancy with enhancements for those approaching retirement or do a different role in a different waste service within the council.

I mean having to go through this isn’t great I’m sure but none of them have to loose jobs and the HGV line sounds an upgrade (for some if that’s what you would be interested in) I can’t help but think these guys are striking cause they know the disruption it causes and they think they can just get what they want. I don’t think it’s fair to let the whole city stink just cause they refuse to adapt. If they were outright loosing jobs or being made to take massive pay cuts I’d get it but this looks like throwing your toys out of the pram.

It’s going to be really hard to find people who can move a bin from one place to another and then back again. Bet it’ll take us ages to replace them… making Birmingham into a shit hole… how about nah

    12. How can the council make them redundant? Redundancy means they no longer need those workers but look at the streets, they clearly need workers.

    13. If the job still needs to be done, then they are not being made ‘redundant’, redundant means that the job is no longer required.

They are being sacked for taking industrial action… that’s a court case win right there.
